Job Title

Senior Software Engineer, Chips System Software

Role Summary

Design and implement chip-specific kernel drivers and embedded software with a focus on Linux kernel development, core OS enablement, platform bring-up, and automation across pre-silicon and silicon platforms.

Work within the Chips System Software organization and collaborate closely with hardware, silicon, pre-silicon, and software teams to enable next-generation SoCs from modeling and simulation through production deployment.

Experience Level

Senior; typically requires 8+ years of relevant software development experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include platform bring-up, kernel and driver development, and cross-team integration.

  • Design, develop, and verify features for next-generation chip architectures.
  • Influence hardware and system software design via architecture reviews and design specifications.
  • Bring up new platforms across simulation, emulation, FPGA, and silicon environments.
  • Enable Linux and core operating system software across pre-silicon and silicon platforms.
  • Debug and resolve complex hardware/software integration issues and perform system-level root-cause analysis.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and demonstrated experience; nice-to-have items listed separately.

  • Must-have: 8+ years of experience in software development involving complex hardware and software designs.
  • Must-have: Strong proficiency in C and Linux kernel development; experience developing and debugging Linux device drivers.
  • Must-have: Strong system-level debugging and root cause analysis skills; familiarity with caches, buses, memory controllers, DMA, and interrupts.
  • Must-have: Demonstrated ability to independently drive projects from design through deployment with end-to-end ownership.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with Buildroot and Linux distributions.
  • Nice-to-have: Contributions to Linux kernel or other open-source projects; prior platform bring-up on pre-silicon/silicon.

Education Requirements

BS or MS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
