Senior Software Developer – LabVIEW / IT

Role Summary

Develop and maintain LabVIEW-based machine control software for electron-beam metrology tools and manage lab IT infrastructure. Work with cross-functional engineering teams to design software architecture, implement control and automation features, and support installations and troubleshooting.

Position is based in Milpitas (San Francisco South Bay); candidates must be authorized to work in the United States and be willing to relocate to the South Bay Area. Travel required several times a year for tool installation and support.

Experience Level

Senior - minimum 4 years industry experience developing machine control software with National Instruments LabVIEW; semiconductor industry experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities split between LabVIEW development and lab IT support.

• Design software architecture and implement LabVIEW-based machine control systems for electron-beam metrology tools.
• Research and prototype control, calibration and diagnostics algorithms; develop testing procedures.
• Implement GUIs and time-critical applications in LabVIEW; deliver higher-level automation software components.
• Support software installation, troubleshooting, commissioning, and field support during tool deployments.
• Document designs, debugging steps, and test procedures; mentor team members and coordinate engineering resources.
• Manage lab IT infrastructure: servers, PCs, network devices, backups, user management, and security configurations.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; nice-to-have items listed separately.

• Minimum 4+ years experience developing machine control software using National Instruments LabVIEW.
• Proven ability to develop GUIs and time-critical LabVIEW applications; familiarity with object-oriented design concepts.
• Hands-on experience with hardware control, data acquisition, and troubleshooting of instrumentation.
• System administration experience on Windows and basic Linux; user management, backups, and software installation.
• Experience configuring small business networks: Windows OS installation, domain setup, switches/routers, NAS and RAID.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; self-motivated and delivery-focused.
• Nice-to-have: Python or text-based development experience; C++/Qt cross-platform GUI development; advanced Linux exposure; prior semiconductor capital equipment experience.

Education Requirements

MS or PhD in Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline; or BS with equivalent work experience. Equivalent practical experience considered.
