Senior SoC Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Senior engineer responsible for leading the physical implementation of next-generation SoCs at advanced process nodes. You will work within the Hardware Engineering team, collaborate with SOC architects and cross-functional engineering teams, and influence physical design methodology and delivery.
Experience Level
Senior β typically 9+ years of relevant physical design and implementation experience, with experience at sub-10nm nodes.
Responsibilities
The role covers end-to-end physical design delivery, tooling automation, and cross-discipline collaboration.
- Drive physical design implementation from methodology definition through floorplanning, power/clock distribution, placement & routing, timing closure and sign-off.
- Collaborate with SOC architects and designers to translate specifications into implementable physical designs.
- Establish and maintain implementation flows and debug issues during project execution and silicon bring-up.
- Automate workflows and improve team productivity with scripts and flow automation.
- Perform timing analysis, physical verification, IR drop analysis and related sign-off tasks.
- Participate in design reviews, roadmap planning and cross-team technical discussions.
- Produce and review detailed technical documentation for implementation and verification teams.
- Work in a hybrid model based in Bengaluru with occasional travel to customers and partners as required.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, experience, and qualities.
- 9+ years of relevant physical design implementation experience at advanced process nodes (sub-10nm).
- Strong understanding of digital design, static timing analysis and physical verification flows.
- Proven track record of delivering multiple designs to production.
- Power user of P&R, timing analysis, physical verification and IR drop analysis tools from major vendors.
- Experience leading and mentoring engineering teams.
- Ability to develop, maintain and debug implementation flows and to automate repetitive tasks.
- Practical collaboration skills across software, CPU, verification, security and R&D teams; strong written and verbal communication.
- Self-starter with attention to detail and high standards for technical quality.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with RISC-V and CHERI ISAs.
- Knowledge of secure systems, platforms and relevant security standards.
Education Requirements
B.Eng./B.Sc., M.Eng./M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent industry experience.
