Job Title

Senior Silicon Product Definition Engineer

Role Summary

The Senior Silicon Product Definition Engineer defines product configurations and drives optimization from early silicon bring-up through high-volume production. You will analyze large silicon and system datasets to identify performance, power, yield, and quality trade-offs and translate findings into concrete changes across silicon, firmware, BIOS, drivers, and platform.

Experience Level

Senior - typically requires 8+ years of relevant experience in silicon product definition, post-silicon characterization, product engineering, or performance/power analysis for GPUs, CPUs, SoCs, or similar complex silicon.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include product-definition, cross-functional coordination, and creating data-driven decision tools.

  • Own product-definition analysis across performance, power, yield, and quality using large silicon datasets to surface opportunities, risks, and trade-offs.
  • Identify frequency, power, and thermal-limiting constraints and translate findings into silicon, firmware, BIOS, driver, and platform changes.
  • Build statistical models, automation, and visualization workflows to improve decision quality and speed.
  • Partner with Tools and Methodology teams to shift data modeling and test procedures earlier in programs.
  • Lead multi-functional root-cause resolution across architecture, design, validation, software/firmware, applications engineering, manufacturing, and operations from bring-up through production.
  • Evaluate performance-per-watt and process-voltage-temperature behavior; drive productized fixes and confirm results.
  • Translate complex silicon and system signals into clear, decision-ready recommendations for leadership.
  • Own and deliver BIOS-level VF (voltage/frequency) settings and drive cross-functional fixes to close power, thermal, performance, yield, and quality gaps.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; nice-to-have items listed separately.

  • 8+ years of experience in silicon product definition, post-silicon characterization, product engineering, or performance and power analysis for GPU, CPU, SoC, or other complex silicon products.
  • Hands-on silicon bring-up experience and practical work on performance-per-watt analysis across process, voltage, and temperature conditions.
  • Strong programming and data-analysis skills in Python and one or more of Perl, JMP, SQL, or equivalent; practical knowledge of statistics and large-dataset manipulation.
  • Technical foundation in digital design, circuit analysis, computer architecture, critical-path analysis, process technology, and transistor/device physics.
  • Working knowledge of the system stack: firmware, BIOS, drivers, OS behavior, and software applications that affect silicon performance and power.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead ambiguous technical issues to root-cause closure across globally distributed, cross-functional teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; able to present complex technical issues and clear options to executive leadership.
  • Nice-to-have: track record shipping product configurations that improved performance/power/yield; experience with advanced process nodes, high-complexity GPUs/CPUs/AI accelerators; experience building reusable methodologies and automation; proficiency using AI productivity tools to accelerate analysis with appropriate guardrails.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field - or equivalent practical experience.
