Job Title

Senior Silicon Photonics Test Engineer

Role Summary

Senior test engineer responsible for developing and delivering high-speed test solutions and automation for silicon photonics integrated circuits and electro-optical modules. The role works across device design, test engineering, validation, module development, and external instrument vendors.

Position is within a CMOS and silicon-photonics interfaces engineering team focused on high-speed chip and photonics interfaces for data center and high-performance computing applications.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Expects substantial industry experience in photonics or mixed-signal test and measurement (typically 5+ years in relevant roles).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Perform full test and device characterization of silicon photonic devices in collaboration with device designers and validation teams.
  • Lead hardware engineering efforts to develop high-speed optical test setups and instrumentation.
  • Develop and maintain test station software and automation (test scripts, data capture, instrument control).
  • Partner with module developers and design teams to execute electro-optical testing of modules.
  • Collaborate with external instrument vendors to integrate software and control interfaces.
  • Work closely with hardware and software teams to define functionality, interfaces, test plans, and documentation.

Requirements

Must-have:

  • Extensive experience in microwave and high-speed optical system testing.
  • Experience measuring, analyzing, and debugging complex mixed-signal designs.
  • Knowledge of optical systems, modules, components, and photonic devices (lasers, detectors, modulators, transceivers, DWDM systems).
  • Experience with test programming and instrument control (Python, LabVIEW, .NET or similar) and familiarity with semiconductor test equipment, wafer probers, and optical module test setups.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively across teams.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience integrating and collaborating with external instrument vendors and automation platforms.
  • Prior work on data-center or high-performance-computing photonics programs or module-level testing.

Education Requirements

PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a similar discipline with 5+ years of related experience; OR Master's in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a similar discipline with 8+ years of related experience. Fields referenced include electrical engineering, physics, and related technical disciplines focused on optical systems/opto-electronics.
