Job Title

Senior Silicon Bring-Up and Integration Engineer

Role Summary

Hands-on engineering role responsible for bringing custom SoCs and ASICs from pre-silicon into physical silicon, validating device behavior, and integrating silicon with firmware, boards, and systems.

Work closely with ASIC design, verification, firmware, board, RF/DSP, and system teams. Relocation provided; up to 20% travel. This position is based onsite (see location notes below) with a temporary remote exception while certain sites are developed.

Experience Level

Senior - requires 7+ years of experience in ASIC/SoC bring-up, post-silicon validation, embedded systems, silicon integration, or closely related fields.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include hands-on silicon bring-up, developing low-level software and test infrastructure, and resolving hardware/software integration issues.

  • Perform first-silicon power-on, initialization, configuration, functional bring-up, and debugging of custom SoCs/ASICs.
  • Develop low-level C/C++ firmware, diagnostics, and Python-based test automation for device control, validation, and regression testing.
  • Create pre-silicon readiness assets (bring-up software, register-access utilities, tests) using simulation, emulation, or FPGA prototypes.
  • Integrate and debug low-level software with hardware: clocks/resets, memory interfaces, peripherals, data paths, and high-speed links.
  • Design and execute functional, performance, stress, and corner tests; support silicon characterization across voltage, temperature, frequency, and process corners.
  • Investigate and root-cause complex failures spanning RTL, firmware/software, boards, power, clocks, interfaces, and system behavior.
  • Develop automated lab infrastructure for DUT configuration, instrumentation control, data collection, and analysis.
  • Specify and validate evaluation boards, sockets, fixtures, and debug instrumentation for bring-up activities.
  • Collaborate across architecture, verification, firmware, board, RF/DSP, manufacturing, and test teams to resolve integration issues and drive production readiness.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, experience, and eligibility.

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience with ASIC/SoC bring-up, post-silicon validation, embedded systems, or silicon integration.
  • Strong C/C++ experience for low-level hardware control, embedded software, firmware, or silicon diagnostics.
  • Proficient with Python or equivalent scripting for test automation, instrumentation, and data analysis.
  • Deep understanding of SoC architecture: memory-mapped registers, interrupts, DMA, clock/reset architecture, and memory systems.
  • Experience with low-level interfaces and debug protocols: JTAG, SPI, I2C, UART, PCIe, Ethernet, SerDes, DDR/LPDDR, or similar.
  • Hands-on use of oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum/signal analyzers, power supplies, and other bring-up equipment.
  • Proven ability to read schematics, register maps, timing diagrams, and hardware design documentation and to debug cross-domain issues.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional skills that strengthen an application.

  • First-silicon bring-up experience for complex custom ASICs/SoCs and development of post-silicon validation frameworks.
  • Experience debugging high-speed interfaces (SerDes, PCIe, DDR/LPDDR, Ethernet) and mixed-signal subsystems (ADC/DAC/PLL/RF).
  • Knowledge of signal integrity, power integrity, clock/reset sequencing, and board-level effects on silicon operation.
  • Familiarity with Linux device drivers, embedded RTOS, boot flows, and low-level firmware.
  • Experience with silicon characterization, root-cause analysis, and validating fixes across RTL, firmware, and silicon revisions.

Location and Compensation Notes

This role is based onsite in San Diego, Kent (WA), or Austin (TX); a temporary remote exception may apply while some sites are developed.

Base pay range (CA/WA listed): $230,398.00 - $322,556.85 (annual). Other site ranges may differ.

Additional Information

Relocation assistance is provided. Interviews will include a technical assessment. Background checks are required as applicable.
