Job Title

Senior Semiconductor Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design and implement digital and mixed-signal test instrumentation for high-speed semiconductor devices in the Teradyne Compute Test Division. Work across hardware, software, and systems teams to define scalable, high-performance test platforms for advanced compute, chiplet-based systems, and high-density interfaces.

Act as a technical lead on FPGA projects, drive prototyping and lab validation, and contribute to design verification and process improvements.

Experience Level

Senior — minimum of 10 years of practical hardware development experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include architecture, detailed design, verification, and lab validation of test instruments and systems, plus team leadership on FPGA projects.

  • Architect, implement, verify, and validate digital and mixed-signal test instruments and subsystems.
  • Collaborate with hardware, software, and systems engineers to define extensible, maintainable designs.
  • Perform product integration, verification testing, and lab debugging.
  • Work with design verification teams to simulate designs and ensure sufficient test coverage.
  • Define and execute prototyping and characterization experiments.
  • Lead and mentor junior engineers on FPGA project teams.
  • Participate in logic design process improvements and tool evaluations.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, tools, and capabilities for success in this role.

  • Expertise in digital logic design and FPGA physical implementation (floor‑planning, place & route, STA).
  • Hands-on experience with Xilinx and/or Intel FPGAs and FPGA toolflows (e.g., Vivado, Quartus).
  • Proficiency in Verilog and a scripting language (Python, TCL, Perl, etc.).
  • Experience with verification and debug tools and methodologies (simulation, UVM familiarity preferred).
  • Familiarity with high-speed interfaces and protocols such as PCIe, AXI, DDRx, SERDES, USB, I2C, SPI, 10/100GE, MIPI, DisplayPort; knowledge of PLLs, HBM, ADC/DAC and PRBS testing is valuable.
  • Experience with Cadence, Synopsys, revision control (Git, SVN, ClearCase), bug tracking (JIRA), and CI methodologies.
  • Understanding of signal integrity for high-speed designs and strong troubleshooting/debugging skills.
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills and experience working in cross-functional teams.
  • Not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Education Requirements

Bachelor of Science (BS) required; advanced degree preferred in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field. Degree preference for graduates of top engineering universities or institutions.
