Senior RTL Design Engineer
Role Summary
Senior RTL Design Engineer on a multidisciplinary team in Bristol developing digital IP used across AI, automotive, edge and infrastructure products. The role focuses on micro-architecture and RTL implementation to meet functional, area, power and performance targets.
Hybrid role based in Bristol. Salary range: £73,500 - £99,500 per year.
Experience Level
Senior level (title indicates senior role; typically 7+ years of relevant experience).
Responsibilities
The core responsibilities are implementation-focused and cross-functional collaboration to deliver high-quality RTL IP.
- Analyse specifications, identify implementation challenges and collaborate with architects to refine designs.
- Plan, track and coordinate tasks for personal deliverables and team contributions.
- Work with verification, back-end implementation, performance, power analysis and subsystem teams to satisfy functional, area, power and timing objectives.
- Improve and evolve design methodology to meet changing project needs.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience required to perform the role; additional desirable skills listed separately.
Must-have:
- Proven micro-architecture and RTL design experience using SystemVerilog, Verilog or VHDL.
- Ability to evaluate high-level design trade-offs and justify decisions.
- Knowledge of ASIC or FPGA design methodology and IP signoff processes, with strong understanding of timing/area/complexity trade-offs.
- Experience with static design checks, synthesis, timing analysis and power-management techniques.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Familiarity with memory system interconnects (e.g., AMBA ACE-Lite, AXI).
- Experience with PCI Express (PCIe), I/O virtualization and address translation.
- Proficiency with SystemVerilog Assertions (SVA) and formal verification techniques.
- Experience with scripting languages such as Perl, Tcl, C shell or Python.
- Knowledge of Functional Safety methodologies.
