Job Title
Senior RMA Engineer
Role Summary
The Senior RMA Engineer leads root-cause analysis and evaluation of returned products (RMA) to resolve customer quality issues. The role performs system- and device-level debugging using lab and test equipment, manages RMA workflows, and coordinates corrective actions with internal engineering, product, and supply-chain teams.
Experience Level
Senior — typically 5+ years in quality engineering, customer support, or product testing. The posting also lists alternative minimums (see Education Requirements for details).
Responsibilities
Accountable for managing RMA investigations and driving corrective actions to reduce field failures and DPPM.
- Lead and manage daily RMA evaluation progress and schedules.
- Perform root-cause analysis on returned products using ATE, X‑ray, CSAM, IV-curve, bench tests and system-level debugging.
- Coordinate cross-functional debug with design, product test, marketing, and supply-chain teams.
- Track actions, owners, and timelines; escalate and initiate corrective actions when required.
- Produce structured problem reports (e.g., 8D) and provide regular status updates to customers and management.
- Provide customer feedback to internal teams and help implement process improvements to lower outgoing product DPPM.
- Serve as a liaison between Qualcomm, regional quality teams, and customer/branch contacts to optimize processes and communications.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, domain experience, and behaviors required to perform the role.
- Proven experience in RMA/product quality investigation and customer-facing quality support.
- Strong understanding of automotive systems and subsystems (IVI, ADAS, connectivity) and how subsystem failures manifest in customer reports.
- Hands-on lab and debug skills at system and device level; experience correlating IC test results to system behavior.
- Proficiency with electronic test equipment such as network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, VNAs, and familiarity with ATE/X‑ray/CSAM/IV-curve/bench test methods.
- Experience debugging ASIC/Apps processor issues (camera, audio, video encoding, graphics) and verification on CPU/GPU/memory.
- Practical knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing quality considerations relevant to customer issues; ability to work with cross-functional design and test teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to organize information, present findings, and drive resolutions with customers and internal stakeholders.
- Solid problem-solving skills and familiarity with quality tools, statistics, and structured corrective-action processes.
- Nice-to-have: familiarity with Qualcomm in‑house test platforms (ADP, PAT, RCM), CMOS design experience, semiconductor assembly/SMT/packaging knowledge, and experience with offshore customers or automotive qualification procedures.
Education Requirements
The posting lists multiple acceptable education/experience combinations: a BS in Electrical, Computer, or Communication Engineering (MS preferred) with ~5+ years' experience is described in the main section. The Minimum Qualifications state: Bachelor's degree in Applied Science, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field with 2+ years of quality-engineering or related experience; OR Master's degree in those fields with 1+ year of relevant experience; OR PhD in those fields (no experience specified). The posting also references a minimum of ~4 years in customer support, quality engineering, or product testing in other sections. Certifications are not specified.
