Role Summary

Join the Terahertz Lab in Hamburg to support system-level RF development and validation for mmWave and sub-THz technologies. The role focuses on developing test solutions, performing simulations and measurements, and building demonstrators to advance automotive radar, robotics, and connectivity products.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Minimum 3 years of experience in RF engineering is required.

Responsibilities

Work as part of a system-level RF competence center to design, validate and automate RF test and prototype solutions.

• Contribute to concept development, feasibility studies, prototyping, simulation, and validation of future RF technologies.
• Design and implement automated, software-controlled RF and communications test solutions.
• Develop test specifications, plans, and instructions for efficient test execution.
• Analyze and troubleshoot software, hardware, and measurement equipment issues.
• Plan and coordinate test and validation jobs according to specifications.
• Continuously improve lab processes, methods, and automation.
• Perform system-level RF and full-wave electromagnetic simulations and post-process data.
• Characterize and create behavioral models of RF components and devices.
• Design, prototype, and build RF demonstrators for mmWave and sub-THz use cases.
• Collaborate with internal and external partners and mentor working students.
• Ensure documentation and procedures comply with ISO9001/IATF16949 where applicable.

Requirements

Core technical skills, practical experience, and language ability required for hands-on RF development and lab automation.

• Must-have: Minimum 3 years of RF engineering experience.
• Must-have: Deep understanding of RF, communications, and/or radar measurement techniques and test methods.
• Must-have: Practical experience debugging software, hardware, and measurement equipment.
• Must-have: Proficiency with system-level RF simulation tools (e.g., Keysight SystemVue) and experience with full-wave EM tools (e.g., HFSS).
• Must-have: Hands-on programming skills in Python and/or MATLAB; basic statistical and data-analysis abilities.
• Must-have: Fluent in German and English (spoken and written); willing to travel internationally ~2–8 weeks/year.
• Must-have: Security-conscious working style (role may involve security-related tasks and certification scope).
• Nice-to-have: Experience with automotive radar, robotics, or sub-THz measurement equipment.
• Nice-to-have: Prior experience implementing lab automation and test orchestration frameworks.

Education Requirements

Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, Physics, or a comparable technical field.
