Senior Reliability Engineer

Role Summary

Lead reliability qualification and life‑prediction activities for optoelectronic components. Work closely with chip design, process, test, product and quality teams to define and execute reliability programmes, assess failure modes, and quantify risk for internal and external customers.

Experience Level

Senior - minimum of 5 years' experience in semiconductor optoelectronics (guidance provided in the posting).

Responsibilities

Deliver reliability qualification, analysis and customer-facing documentation for optoelectronic components.

• Define and implement optical/optoelectronic component reliability qualification programmes.
• Assess ageing characteristics, extract failure-mode specific degradation models, and quantify reliability risks.
• Plan and perform accelerated life testing and characterisation to verify product reliability.
• Provide customer-facing reliability documentation and technical responses based on physics-of-failures.
• Collaborate with design, process, test, product and quality engineering to resolve reliability issues and verify fixes rapidly.
• Perform statistical data analysis and defend conclusions in written reports and presentations.

Requirements

Essential qualifications, skills and behaviors required for the role.

Must-have:

• At least 5 years of experience in semiconductor optoelectronics with demonstrable reliability work.
• Experience defining, planning and implementing opto-electronic component reliability and qualification programmes.
• Knowledge of optoelectronic failure modes (lasers, photodetectors, modulators, resistors, waveguides, fibre coupling).
• Hands-on experience with accelerated life testing and life-prediction using reliability modeling and statistical tools (Reliasoft/Weibull++, JMP, Minitab, Python).
• Experience applying Design for Reliability, FMEA and FTA methodologies.
• Strong technical reporting and presentation skills; able to defend data and conclusions.
• Good interpersonal and project-management skills; able to engage cross-functional teams.
• Ability and willingness to travel internationally to meet customers.
• Self-motivated, able to work to deadlines and adapt to changing objectives.

Nice-to-have:

• Fabrication/process engineering experience and understanding of manufacturing variables that affect reliability.
• Experience in test instrumentation engineering and die-level characterisation; familiarity with C or C# is beneficial.
• Experience with root-cause analysis techniques (Electroluminescence, FIB, SEM/TEM, EDX).
• Experience using multiphysics tools for reliability-driven design (COMSOL, Ansys).
• Experience mentoring engineers and handling customer reliability communications.

Education Requirements

Minimum: Master’s degree in Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science or a similar related discipline; strong academic background required. PhD in a related field is desirable.
