Senior Quantum Systems Validation Engineer
PsiQuantumJob Title
Senior Quantum Systems Validation Engineer
Role Summary
The Quantum Systems Validation Engineer develops and executes validation and characterization tests for integrated quantum photonic systems, including optics, electronics, cryogenics, and control software. The role sits on the Quantum Systems Validation team and delivers experimental data and analysis that inform design, manufacturing, and system performance models.
Experience Level
Senior-level role requiring technical leadership and significant industry or academic experience. Advanced-degree details are listed under Education Requirements.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities focus on designing experiments, producing engineering data, and driving corrective actions across cross-functional teams.
- Design and execute tests to validate photonic quantum computer systems and deliver engineering data.
- Define and document validation objectives with design teams; ensure system designs support validation needs.
- Develop calibration, self-test, and control procedures; specify software and electronics requirements to support procedures and data management.
- Analyze, reduce, and deliver experimental data and integrate results into system performance models.
- Debug hardware and software; perform failure analysis and coordinate resolution with engineering and manufacturing teams.
- Communicate validation outcomes to stakeholders and recommend corrective actions.
- Lead and mentor junior validation engineers; coordinate complex validation activities involving multiple team members.
Requirements
Concise list of required and preferred qualifications, focused on practical skills and demonstrable experience.
- Must-have: Proven ability to design and execute complex experiments or engineering tests in cross-functional settings; technical leadership; strong problem-solving and debugging skills across hardware and software; software development experience for instrumentation and controls (Python preferred); ability to work independently and communicate effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with quantum optics, single-photon generation and detection, quantum characterization/verification/validation, quantum information theory, integrated silicon photonics, mixed-signal/analog/RF electronics, or electro-optical device test and design.
Education Requirements
M.S. level required (Ph.D. preferred) in Electrical Engineering, experimental Physics, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
