Senior Quantum 3D Integration and Packaging Engineer
Role Summary
The Senior Engineer will develop and implement 3D integration and advanced packaging solutions for quantum devices, working within Applied Materials' CTO group on semiconductor and optics-enabled quantum hardware. The role focuses on process development, materials characterization, experiment design, and cross-functional integration to reduce device error rates.
Onsite role in Singapore (Science Park II; moving to Tampines office starting May 2027). Collaborates with R&D teams, customers, startups, and universities.
Experience Level
Senior — requires significant hands-on experience. The posting specifies 5+ years in advanced packaging, 3D or heterogeneous integration, or semiconductor process development.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include experimental design, process development, characterization, and cross-functional problem resolution.
- Create 3D integration and packaging solutions across platforms and quantum device structures.
- Develop new materials, processes, and structures with packaging, process, hardware, and metrology teams.
- Design experiments, collect and analyze data, and compile technical reports and presentations.
- Troubleshoot complex process issues and perform root cause analysis.
- Measure material and device properties and interpret results to guide process optimization.
- Stay current with advances in 3D integration and quantum information to implement new methodologies.
- Collaborate with customers, startups, and universities to identify problems and deliver enabling solutions.

- Must-have:
- 5+ years experience in advanced packaging, 3D integration, heterogeneous integration, or semiconductor process development.
- Strong knowledge of wafer-level packaging, hybrid bonding, TSVs, chiplets, flip-chip, and related packaging technologies.
- Hands-on semiconductor fabrication, process integration, materials characterization, and metrology experience.
- Experience with DOE, data analysis, process optimization, and root cause analysis.
- Proven technical problem-solving, clear technical communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Ability to work effectively with customers, startups, universities, and multidisciplinary R&D teams.
- Nice-to-have:
- Familiarity with quantum devices, superconducting technologies, photonics, or cryogenic systems.
Education Requirements
PhD, Master’s, or Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Microelectronics, or a related field.
