Job Title
Senior Process Engineer - Quantum
Role Summary
The Senior Process Engineer will run and own UHV-based manufacturing and development processes for superconducting and/or semiconductor quantum devices at Microsoft Quantum's Lyngby, Denmark fabrication site. The role combines hands-on fabrication, process development, qualification, and implementation of mature processes into the Plan of Record (POR).
Microsoft Quantum develops scalable quantum computing systems across the stack to enable advanced computing research and applications.
Experience Level
Senior. The position expects significant hands-on industrial or production-oriented R&D experience with UHV nanofabrication and process ownership.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include executing, improving, and owning UHV fabrication processes and driving process transfer into production flows.
- Fabricate quantum devices using UHV-based nanofabrication and deposition processes.
- Drive process development and transition mature processes into the Plan of Record (POR).
- Monitor, control, and maintain fabrication process flows; perform yield tracking, data analysis, and continuous improvement.
- Support root-cause analysis and failure-mode investigations related to device quality and fabrication processes.
- Troubleshoot operational issues and participate in planning and execution of UHV tool maintenance.
- Implement tool qualifications and change-control processes as part of process ownership.
- Work collaboratively across cross-functional teams and align processes with production requirements.
Requirements
Core technical and operational capabilities required; additional desirable skills listed under "Nice-to-have."
Must-have:
- Significant hands-on experience with UHV-based nanofabrication and process development for superconducting and/or semiconductor materials.
- Experience as process owner for UHV deposition tools, including maintenance planning, tool qualifications, and change control.
- Experience with materials characterization techniques that assess structural, interfacial, and electrical performance relevant to process quality and device behavior.
- Ability to analyze data and apply data-driven decision-making to improve yield and process control.
- Strong English oral and written communication skills and demonstrated teamwork and cross-functional collaboration.
- Ability to meet Microsoft security and export-control screening requirements (background check, citizenship/authorization verification).
Nice-to-have:
- Experience in production-oriented R&D or industrial fabrication environments.
- Experience using AI tools to accelerate discovery, modelling, analysis, or day-to-day automation in hardware development.
Education Requirements
MSc with relevant experience or PhD in Materials Science, Engineering, or Physics as specified in the posting.
