Senior Principal Switch Architect

Role Summary

Member of the Teralynx switch architecture team responsible for defining product architecture, behavioral and performance modeling, and architecture validation for Marvell's data center switch ASICs. The role shapes features and protocols from concept through development and production and works across multiple engineering teams.

This role is eligible for Marvell's bonus and equity plans.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Typical guidance in the posting: 15+ years with a Bachelor's degree, or 10–12 years with a Master's/PhD.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include architecture definition, modeling, and cross-team coordination.

• Define product architecture and system-level features for next-generation switch ASICs.
• Specify and define new features and networking protocols for switch chips (L2/L3, QoS, traffic management).
• Create and maintain behavioral and performance models to evaluate architecture decisions.
• Drive architecture validation and collaborate with implementation and verification teams to ensure correct feature delivery.
• Work across multiple teams and geographies to coordinate design, implementation, and testing of switch features.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience.

• Proven experience architecting, designing, and verifying complex ASICs.
• Deep knowledge of Layer 2 / Layer 3 forwarding, QoS, networking protocols, datapath, and traffic management.
• Strong problem solving, conceptual thinking, and communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple teams and geographies.
• Proficiency in C / C++ and Python.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with 15+ years of relevant professional experience; OR Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with ~10–12 years of relevant experience.
