Job Title

Senior Principal Robotics Hardware Architect

Role Summary

Senior technical leader responsible for robotics hardware architecture across mounted, mobile and humanoid platforms. Member of the Robotics Focus Applications (RFAS) team based in Wilmington, MA, collaborating with global robotics, RSS and Edge AI teams.

Primary mission: define and optimize hardware architectures-sensors, actuators, power, connectivity, embedded processing and IC interfaces-to improve system performance, reliability and manufacturability.

Experience Level

Senior - typically 10+ years in industrial/commercial robotics hardware and system architecture.

Responsibilities

The role provides technical leadership and system-level architecture for robotics hardware and supports sales/field engagements.

  • Map customer problem statements to ADI technology solutions and provide technical guidance.
  • Collaborate with internal technology groups (vision, sensing, motion, connectivity, power) to position ADI differentiation.
  • Create and optimize system architectures and translate system-level requirements into subsystem and silicon requirements (control latency, thermal, wiring, grip-slip detection, joint responsiveness).
  • Drive product roadmaps for connectivity, power, vision, digital and motor-control components.
  • Expand domain knowledge across humanoid, mobile and outdoor robots and track industry trends.
  • Support local sales and FAEs in deep technical discussions with robotics customers in the USA.
  • Work across electrical, mechanical, firmware, controls, AI and systems disciplines during development and deployment.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience.

  • Extensive hands-on experience architecting, designing, building and debugging robotic hardware and subsystems.
  • Deep understanding of semiconductor-based system design: analog and mixed-signal signal chains, data converters, embedded processors, power electronics and custom silicon.
  • Experience with schematic capture, PCB design and board bring-up, laboratory instrumentation, debugging and design verification.
  • Working knowledge of motors, encoders, motor-control electronics, position feedback and real-time control.
  • Experience integrating tactile, force/torque, position, current, vision or other sensors into closed-loop robotic systems.
  • Proven ability to influence technical decisions in a matrix organization and communicate technical concepts to both technical and business audiences.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 10% (primarily within the USA).

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering is specified. The posting pairs the Bachelor's requirement with 10+ years of experience in industrial/commercial robotics; no alternative-equivalent degree language or additional certifications were listed.
