Job Title

Senior Principal Engineer, Software/Firmware — Coherent Optical Module Firmware & SoC-based Embedded Platforms

Role Summary

Senior individual contributor responsible for end-to-end firmware development and program ownership for coherent optical module products (e.g., 400ZR, 800ZR) and SoC-based embedded platforms. Works across firmware, hardware, DSP, ATE, and customer teams to deliver production-grade firmware and field support.

Experience Level

Senior — requires extensive experience; the posting specifies 15+ years of embedded software/firmware architecture, design, and implementation.

Responsibilities

Primary technical and program responsibilities include:

  • Own firmware architecture and development from bring-up through production release for coherent optical module programs.
  • Lead program-level firmware activities: bring-up, calibration, validation, release, and customer delivery milestones.
  • Design and implement bootloaders, firmware upgrade mechanisms (including hitless/in-service upgrades), and flash management.
  • Implement calibration and control engines, CMIS compliance features, and hardware adaptation layers.
  • Drive cross-functional debug and resolution of system-level issues with DSP, hardware, ATE, and test teams.
  • Support customer technical engagements and field issue resolution.
  • Contribute to shared firmware architecture, tooling, CI/CD, and release processes.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to other engineers.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

  • 15+ years in embedded software/firmware architecture, design, and implementation.
  • Deep expertise in coherent optical module firmware and relevant standards (e.g., OIF-400ZR, C-CMIS, CMIS 4.x/5.x).
  • Proven experience in bootloader design, firmware upgrade mechanisms (including hitless upgrades), and flash management.
  • Experience with SoC-based embedded platforms (MCU/DSP-based architectures).
  • Proficiency in C/C++ firmware development and Python for test/automation.
  • Strong cross-boundary debugging skills, lab bring-up experience, ATE integration, and field support.
  • Familiarity with Jira, GitLab, and CI/CD firmware release flows.
  • Excellent communication skills for internal and customer-facing collaboration.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience at an optical module or optical semiconductor company.
  • Familiarity with coherent DSP platforms or Marvell optical platforms.
  • Background in calibration and control algorithms for optical components (EDFA, MZ, TOSA, etc.).

Education Requirements

Not specified.
