Job Title
Senior Principal Engineer, Physical Design Engineering
Role Summary
Lead SoC execution from specification through silicon for complex system-on-chip products. Define technical strategy and top-level architecture, select IP and foundry nodes, and drive cross-functional teams to achieve first‑time‑right silicon.
Experience Level
Senior — requires 15+ years of relevant semiconductor design experience.
Responsibilities
Accountable for SoC strategy, architecture, delivery and sign-off across multiple engineering domains.
- Define long-term product and technology roadmaps for complex SoCs.
- Lead IP assessments, vendor selection, and foundry node evaluations.
- Author and drive top-level SoC architecture (NoC/fabric, memory hierarchy, power architecture, micro‑architecture).
- Own SoC lifecycle from concept, definition, tape-out to productization.
- Ensure Power, Performance, Area and Cost (PPA) targets are met.
- Drive silicon sign-off activities: synthesis, DFT, constraints, timing closure, and physical design tape-out.
- Coordinate design, verification, DFT, physical design, power and silicon validation teams.
- Partner with software, systems, manufacturing and program management to deliver production silicon.
- Lead executive decision-making, program risk mitigation, and stakeholder communications.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience. Education requirements are listed below.
- Proven ability to define and drive technical strategy for digital design and SoC products.
- Authority in complex SoC architecture and implementation across multiple domains.
- Track record of innovation and delivering new digital design approaches.
- Strong business acumen and ability to align technical direction with product objectives.
- Experience optimizing PPA and governing silicon sign-off processes.
- Experience evaluating IP vendors and foundry technology nodes.
- Demonstrated cross-functional leadership and stakeholder management at executive levels.
- Willingness to travel up to 10%.
- Note: Non‑US applicants may require export licensing approval for access to certain technical data.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience. The posting also specifies 15+ years of relevant semiconductor design experience.
