Job Title
Senior Principal Electrical Engineer
Role Summary
Lead design, development, integration, test, and production of high-reliability electronic systems for military/avionics applications from requirements through sustainment. Work on multidisciplinary teams (electrical, mechanical, software/firmware, test) to deliver complex countermeasure and electronic warfare products.
Role involves hands-on hardware design, verification, test planning, and mentorship of junior engineers in an Agile hardware development environment.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Requires substantial prior experience; see Requirements for years-of-experience guidance.
Responsibilities
Principal responsibilities include:
- Design and troubleshoot high-speed digital, analog, mixed-signal, and power circuit card assemblies (CCAs) for military electronics/avionics.
- Lead electrical architecture, schematic design, component selection, and hardware integration for complex systems.
- Develop and execute verification and test plans; integrate test solutions and produce detailed test reports.
- Participate in requirements development, technical trade studies, and technology insertion/upgrades.
- Mentor and transfer knowledge to junior engineering staff and lead technical teams through full product lifecycle (capture, development, production, sustaining).
Requirements
Must-have and preferred skills and experience.
Must-have:
- 8+ years designing, testing, and troubleshooting high-reliability embedded systems (see Education Requirements for degree-related provisions).
- Demonstrated understanding of electrical principles and test methodologies; strong laboratory and hands-on test experience with advanced equipment.
- Proven ability to develop and execute test plans and report results.
- Eligible to obtain a U.S. DoD security clearance.
- Experience leading engineering designs, integration/test, and production activities for complex hardware.
Nice-to-have:
- FPGA/VHDL design experience and familiarity with embedded processors/microcontrollers.
- Experience with memory and high-speed interfaces (DDR, QSPI) and protocols (PCIe, Ethernet, JESD204, I2C, JTAG, MIL-STD-1553).
- Power supply design (DC-DC) and mixed-signal interface experience.
- Experience with PCB/CCA design tools (e.g., Cadence) and multilayer rigid/rigid-flex designs.
- Knowledge of aerospace/defense development and test standards (e.g., MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-461) and manufacturing/test for LRIP/FRP.
- Familiarity with Agile hardware development, AS9145 processes, and control account management.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; experience mentoring junior staff.
- Active DoD security clearance is preferred.
Education Requirements
Required: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. A Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MS EE) can substitute for two years of experience (advertised as 6+ years with an MS versus 8+ years otherwise). No other degree, certification, or equivalent-education language is specified.
