Senior Principal Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and develop RF and microwave power amplifier modules for wireless communications. Collaborate with filter designers, antenna switch designers, product engineering, and characterization teams to move designs from concept to high-volume production.
Work includes circuit design, EM and nonlinear simulation, characterization, test-bench development, and production support while providing technical leadership to engineering and technician teams.
Experience Level
Senior - 10+ years of experience in RF semiconductors required.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include design, simulation, characterization, and production support of RF power amplifier modules.
- Design input, output, and interstage matching networks to optimize gain, efficiency, bandwidth, and linearity.
- Perform load-pull, source-pull, harmonic balance, stability, and EM simulations.
- Use Agilent ADS and HFSS for circuit and EM simulations; contribute to module laminate design.
- Coordinate with filter and antenna switch designers and product engineering to improve yields and transfer designs to manufacturing.
- Act as technical lead: set design direction, provide specification feedback, and assign tasks to RF technicians.
- Characterize and validate designs using signal generators, spectrum analyzers, power meters, VNAs, and probe stations.
- Provide production support and ensure designs have margin for high-volume manufacturing.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; education is listed separately below.
- Must-have: 10+ years of RF semiconductor experience.
- Must-have: Hands-on experience with Agilent ADS and HFSS EM simulation tools.
- Must-have: Practical RF circuit design experience and familiarity with RF measurement equipment (spectrum analyzer, network analyzer, power meter, VNA, probe station).
- Must-have: Strong verbal and presentation skills; able to communicate technical and logistical issues clearly.
- Must-have: Detail-oriented with experience supporting high-yield product delivery and production transfer.
- Nice-to-have: Laminate/module packaging experience.
Education Requirements
M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering.
