Senior Principal Architect, AI Safety

Role Summary

Technical lead responsible for defining and implementing AI safety architectures for next-generation Automotive compute subsystems and complex SoCs used in L4 autonomous driving and robotics. Work across architecture, hardware, software, verification, functional safety, cybersecurity, and product teams to deliver end-to-end AI safety solutions from concept to customer deployment.

Experience Level

Senior - typically requires 10+ years of experience in semiconductor or embedded systems development, including complex SoC architecture.

Responsibilities

Accountable for AI safety strategy, architecture, and assurance across hardware and software domains.

  • Develop AI safety frameworks, requirements, and architectures for Automotive and Robotics SoCs and compute subsystems.
  • Align AI safety approaches with standards such as ISO 26262, ISO 21448 (SOTIF), IEC 61508, and ISO/SAE 21434.
  • Integrate AI safety features across hardware, runtimes, compilers, and ML toolchains.
  • Define methods for runtime monitoring, uncertainty management, robustness, explainability, and fault tolerance.
  • Lead cross-functional technical initiatives and perform safety verification, validation, and risk assessment throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Support customer safety assessments and represent technical position in industry standards activities.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and domain experience.

  • 10+ years in semiconductor or embedded systems, with experience in complex SoC architecture.
  • Strong understanding of AI/ML systems, hardware/software co-design, and modern SoC architectures.
  • Experience with AI software stacks, inference runtimes, compiler technologies, and ML deployment tool flows.
  • Familiarity with functional safety and security concepts; experience applying safety standards in system design.
  • Proven ability to lead and influence multidisciplinary engineering teams; strong communication skills.
  • Nice-to-have: direct experience in Automotive or Robotics safety-critical AI systems and participation in standards development.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (or equivalent practical experience) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, AI, or a related technical field.
