Job Title

Senior Principal Analog/Mixed-Signal Design Engineer

Role Summary

Member of the Optical PHY (CE-OPHY) analog design team responsible for architectural investigation, circuit design, verification, and delivery of high-speed and optical transceiver analog IP. Work focuses on meeting performance, power, and reliability targets for long-haul, metro and datacenter communication systems.

This role is part of Marvell's San Diego design organization and contributes to bringing analog designs from concept to production through collaboration with layout, verification, test, and application teams.

Experience Level

Senior — Principal level. Hiring guidance: demonstrated senior expertise with architecture and delivery of complex analog/mixed-signal IP; job posting specifies MS +12 years related experience or PhD +10 years related experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include architecture, design, verification, and handoff of analog/mixed-signal circuits for high-speed and optical transceivers.

  • Perform architectural investigations and implement circuits such as PLLs, DLLs, ADCs, DACs, regulators, amplifiers, TX/RX front-ends, and CDRs to meet performance targets.
  • Perform design verification and simulation using industry-standard tools (SPICE/Spectre, MATLAB, HSPICE/Hsim, etc.).
  • Collaborate closely with layout, verification, test, and application teams to integrate and deliver analog IP to production.
  • Develop lab test plans and perform prototype validation to verify designs meet specifications.
  • Establish and promote design best practices and problem-solving approaches for the team.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; degree requirements are listed separately under Education Requirements.

  • Hands-on experience designing mixed-signal circuits (ADCs, DACs, RX/TX, PLLs, filters, bandgap/bias circuits, regulators, amplifiers).
  • Deep knowledge of deep sub-micron CMOS technologies and low-power / high-speed design techniques.
  • Proficiency with IC design and verification tools such as Spectre, SPICE, MATLAB, HSPICE/Hsim, and familiarity with Verilog for mixed-signal flows.
  • Lab testing and prototype evaluation skills to validate silicon against specifications.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to apply innovative solutions to complex issues.
  • Experience delivering production-quality analog IP and working across cross-functional teams.
  • May require eligibility to access export-controlled technology; candidate must be able to satisfy applicable export-control requirements.

Education Requirements

Completed a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering with 12+ years of related experience, or a PhD in Electrical Engineering with 10+ years of related experience. (These degree/experience combinations were specified in the source.)
