Senior Platform Hardware Design Engineer
Intel CorporationJob Title
Senior Platform Hardware Design Engineer
Role Summary
Provide technical leadership for architecture, design, integration, bring-up, and validation of complex platform hardware and PCBs. Work across silicon, firmware, validation, SI/PI, mechanical, thermal, layout, manufacturing, and suppliers to deliver high-performance platform solutions.
Experience Level
Senior - typically 6+ years of relevant industry experience in platform or system hardware engineering.
Responsibilities
Take end-to-end technical ownership of platform-board hardware, lead cross-functional technical decisions, and drive board bring-up and validation.
- Own platform-board designs from requirements and architecture through release, fabrication, assembly, power-on, validation, and deployment.
- Translate system and silicon requirements into circuit-level specifications, component selection, and PCB implementation requirements.
- Define platform architecture decisions for high-speed interfaces, memory, power delivery, clocking, resets, sequencing, control, and validation functions.
- Lead schematic and PCB implementation activities: stack-up, placement, routing, impedance control, and power distribution.
- Partner with SI/PI engineers to set constraints and evaluate critical interfaces and PDNs; use modeling and measurement to guide decisions.
- Define and lead power-on, bring-up, validation, characterization, and lab debug strategies; perform root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Lead technical reviews, identify and mitigate risks, and drive closure of critical findings across teams.
- Mentor and guide engineers and layout teams; develop reusable architectures, review methodologies, and engineering best practices.
Requirements
Summary of required skills and experience. Education requirements are listed separately below.
- Must have: 6+ years of hands-on industry experience in complex platform hardware, PCB development, or system hardware engineering.
- Proven experience leading board designs through architecture, schematic, PCB implementation, bring-up, debug, and validation.
- Deep practical knowledge of digital and analog board design, mixed-signal fundamentals, and system architecture.
- Strong expertise in high-speed interfaces and transmission-line behavior, signal integrity (SI) and power integrity (PI), memory, clocking, reset, sequencing, and PDN design.
- Experience with PCB technologies and layout techniques (stack-up, placement, routing) and schematic capture/PCB review tools.
- Hands-on laboratory bring-up and debug experience; ability to use measurement equipment and diagnose complex board-level problems.
- Demonstrated technical leadership, cross-functional communication, documentation, and mentoring skills.
- Nice to have: experience with compute/server/FPGA validation hardware, PCIe/DDR/Ethernet/USB, SI/PI simulation and measurement correlation, PDN design, Verilog basics, Python scripting/automation, DFM/DFT, and leading distributed multidisciplinary teams.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
