Job Title
Senior Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Lead the physical implementation of Ericsson 5G ASICs and SoCs at the Austin design site. Define the physical design flow, collaborate with IP, SoC and CAD teams, and deliver high-performance silicon under program constraints.
Hands-on role with responsibility for flow development, execution, and team building across advanced process nodes.
Experience Level
Senior — requires 10+ years of physical design experience in SoC, IP, or ASIC environments.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include creating and executing the physical design flow, delivering PPA and signoff quality designs, and growing the physical design capability.
- Define physical design flow: select tools, methods, and processes from the ground up.
- Drive physical implementation at both IP and SoC levels: floorplanning, placement, routing, and closure.
- Lead PPA optimization, power and timing closure, and signoff activities.
- Collaborate with design, CAD, verification, and cross-disciplinary teams; coordinate with global engineering counterparts.
- Recruit, onboard, mentor, and develop the physical design team.
- Work hands-on with advanced process nodes and semi‑custom design flows.
- Own problem resolution and delivery under program pressure.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience.
- 10+ years of physical design experience in SoC, IP, or ASIC environments.
- Expertise in one or more areas: PPA optimization, RTL checks & synthesis, floorplanning & routing, power & timing closure, or signoff.
- Working knowledge of back-end disciplines: EMIR, DFM, DFT, and power-grid analysis.
- SystemVerilog knowledge and semi-custom design experience.
- Strong scripting skills (e.g., Python, Tcl, Perl) for automation and flow development.
- Proven ability to drive execution, resolve complex problems, and meet program timelines.
- Team orientation with demonstrated mentoring and cross-team collaboration skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with advanced process nodes and CAD tool/flow development.
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science (BS) in Electrical Engineering (EE) or Computer Engineering (CE) required (minimum).
