Role Summary

The Senior Physical Design Engineer performs end-to-end physical implementation and signoff for digital blocks and SoCs, working within a collaborative, sometimes geographically distributed engineering team. The role covers implementation tasks from RTL-to-GDSII and drives quality results in timing, power, and physical verification.

Responsibilities

Responsible for practical execution and resolution of implementation and signoff activities across the RTL-to-GDSII flow.

• Execute RTL-to-GDSII implementation: floor-planning, clock tree synthesis (CTS), routing, and optimization.
• Perform timing closure, static timing analysis, and equivalence checking.
• Run and support physical verification (DRC/LVS) and signoff flows.
• Identify and resolve timing, power, IR/EM, and layout issues; collaborate with senior engineers as needed.
• Use Cadence- or Synopsys-based physical design and signoff tool flows for implementation and signoff.
• Review synthesis results and timing constraints; provide actionable feedback to RTL and design teams.
• Communicate status and technical findings clearly; work effectively in cross-functional teams.
• Travel as required (approximately 10%).

Requirements

Key technical skills and experience required or strongly preferred.

• Approximately 3–7 years of relevant physical design or digital implementation experience.
• Hands-on experience with industry-standard physical design and signoff tools, preferably Cadence or Synopsys environments.
• Practical experience across floor-planning, CTS, routing, timing closure, and physical verification signoff.
• Working knowledge of synthesis flows and timing constraints to interpret implementation results.
• Ability to analyze and resolve timing, power, IR/EM, DRC, and LVS issues.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills; ownership of assigned implementation tasks.
• Willingness to learn and adapt to project requirements; able to work in distributed teams.

Education Requirements

B.Tech., M.Tech., or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related discipline; equivalent practical experience also acceptable.
