Senior Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Senior Physical Design Engineer responsible for defining and executing ASIC physical design flows for Ericsson's 5G radio and baseband silicon. You will work across IP and SoC levels with design, CAD and cross-disciplinary teams and collaborate with engineering counterparts in Austin and Sweden.
This is a hybrid, on-site role based in Austin, TX; the team will be establishing new flows and methodologies for advanced process-node tape-outs.
Experience Level
Senior — typically 10+ years of physical design experience in SoC, IP, or ASIC environments.
Responsibilities
Primary ownership and hands-on execution responsibilities:
- Define the physical design flow (tools, methods, processes) from the ground up.
- Drive design execution at both IP and SoC levels and deliver tape-outs on schedule.
- Partner with design, CAD, verification, and cross-disciplinary teams to implement complex ASIC physical designs.
- Recruit, interview, onboard, mentor, and grow the physical design team.
- Work hands-on with advanced process node technology and push methodology improvements.
- Own problem resolution and close hard technical issues under program pressure.
Requirements
Essential skills and experience required for immediate impact:
- 10+ years of physical design experience in SoC, IP, or ASIC environments (experience level required; degree moved to Education Requirements).
- Deep practical expertise in one or more of: PPA optimization, RTL checks & synthesis, floorplanning & routing, power & timing closure, or signoff.
- Solid working knowledge of back-end disciplines: EMIR, DFM, DFT, and power grid analysis.
- SystemVerilog familiarity and semi-custom design experience.
- Strong scripting skills for automation and CAD flow development.
- Proven ability to drive execution, mentor others, and deliver under program timelines.
Education Requirements
Minimum: Bachelor's degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering (EE) or Computer Engineering (CE).
