Senior Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Responsible for physical implementation (PNR) of Qualcomm SoCs within the ASIC engineering team. The role owns floorplanning, placement, clock tree synthesis, post-route and signoff activities to meet performance, power and timing targets on leading-edge process nodes.
Experience Level
Senior-level. The posting expects approximately 3+ years of hardware or PNR implementation experience and assigns end-to-end responsibility for physical design and signoff.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities involve implementing and signing off physical design for system-on-chip products.
- Own PNR implementation: floorplanning, placement, CTS, optimization and post-route tasks.
- Perform timing signoff and static timing analysis (STA); support power analysis and signoff flows.
- Work across signoff domains including LEC/CLP/PDN and low-power verification as needed.
- Develop, debug and maintain PNR flows and automation scripts.
- Use Unix/Linux environments and scripting (Perl/TCL) to automate tasks and flows.
- Collaborate with verification, architecture and layout teams to resolve implementation issues and meet project goals.
Requirements
Required technical skills and preferred qualifications.
- Must-have: 3+ years' experience in hardware engineering with hands-on PNR flow experience on advanced process nodes (e.g., 4nm/5nm/7nm/10nm).
- Must-have: Proven skills in floorplanning, placement, CTS and timing optimization.
- Must-have: Signoff experience, including STA and power analysis.
- Must-have: Proficiency with Unix/Linux and scripting (Perl, TCL).
- Must-have: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to learn quickly.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with low-power verification, formal/power verification (FV/PV) and detailed signoff domains (LEC/CLP/PDN).
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field with 2+ years of ASIC/design experience; OR Master's degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field with 1+ year of ASIC/design experience; OR PhD in Science, Engineering, or a related field. The posting ties degree level to minimum experience rather than requiring a single specific degree.
