The role combines technical leadership, project ownership, and cross-functional coordination to meet schedule, performance, power, area, and manufacturability targets.
Experience Level
Senior - typically 12+ years of ASIC or SoC physical design experience, including significant team or program leadership.
Responsibilities
Accountable for planning, execution, and quality of physical design activities and for mentoring the engineering team.
- Lead and grow a team of physical design engineers based in Bangalore.
- Plan and execute physical implementation from netlist handoff through signoff and tapeout.
- Drive floorplanning, power planning, placement, clock-tree synthesis, routing, optimization, extraction, and timing closure.
- Manage physical verification, IR/EM analysis, signal integrity, DFM, and signoff activities.
- Define technical direction, project priorities, execution plans, and quality standards.
- Partner with RTL, microarchitecture, DFT, STA, CAD, verification, packaging, and product teams.
- Identify risks early and lead mitigation plans across schedule, power, performance, area, and manufacturability.
- Improve methodologies, automation, flows, tools, and engineering practices; use metrics and reviews to increase predictability.
- Contribute to staffing, capability development, performance management, and succession planning.
- Communicate technical status, trade-offs, risks, and recommendations to engineering leadership.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, leadership experience, and cross-functional collaboration ability.
- 12+ years of ASIC/SoC physical design experience with proven leadership of teams or major project areas.
- Hands-on expertise across the complete physical design flow: synthesis handoff through signoff, timing closure, and tapeout delivery.
- Practical experience in floorplanning, power distribution, placement, CTS, routing, extraction, signal integrity, IR drop, and electromigration analysis.
- Experience delivering complex designs in advanced process technologies and managing multi-corner/multi-mode closure.
- Strong problem-solving, planning, prioritization, communication, and people-leadership skills.
- Proven ability to work with geographically distributed, cross-functional engineering teams.
- Nice-to-have: familiarity with industry-standard EDA implementation and signoff tools; scripting/automation experience (Tcl, Python, Perl); experience with high-performance networking, compute, or FPGA SoC designs.
