Job Title

Senior Physical Design Engineer

Role Summary

Lead physical design for ASICs used in Ericsson's 5G radio and baseband products at the Austin design site. Define and implement physical design flows, drive IP and SoC execution, and collaborate with CAD, design, and cross-discipline teams globally.

This is a hybrid on-site role based in Austin, TX; it is not open to fully remote work.

Experience Level

Senior level β€” requires 10+ years of physical design experience (SOC, IP, or ASIC environments).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include defining flow, executing designs, and building the team.

  • Define the physical design flow (tools, methods, processes) from the ground up.
  • Drive physical design execution at both IP and SoC levels, meeting PPA and timing goals.
  • Collaborate with design, CAD, verification, and cross-disciplinary teams to resolve issues and close designs.
  • Recruit, interview, onboard, mentor, and grow the physical-design engineering team.
  • Work hands-on with advanced process nodes and advance methodology across tape-outs.
  • Own problem resolution and deliverables under program pressure.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and demonstrable experience.

  • 10+ years of physical design experience in SOC, IP, or ASIC environments.
  • Deep expertise in one or more: PPA optimization, RTL checks & synthesis, floorplanning & routing, power & timing closure, or signoff.
  • Working knowledge of back-end disciplines: EM/IR analysis, DFM, DFT, and power grid analysis.
  • SystemVerilog experience.
  • Semi-custom design experience.
  • Strong scripting skills for automation and flow development (e.g., Python, Tcl, Perl).
  • Proven ability to drive execution, solve hard problems, and mentor engineers under schedule pressure.
  • Effective team orientation and cross-site collaboration experience.

Education Requirements

BS in Electrical Engineering (EE) or Computer Engineering (CE) minimum.
