Job Title

Senior Performance Modeling Architect

Role Summary

Join Tenstorrent's CPU architecture team to develop performance models and analyses that guide the design of high-performance RISC-V CPUs for AI and HPC workloads. The role combines analytical modeling, software implementation, and collaboration with architects to influence microarchitectural decisions.

This position is hybrid, based out of Santa Clara, CA or Austin, TX.

Experience Level

Senior level. The posting seeks candidates with about 1–5 years of industry experience or equivalent research experience; candidates with strong academic backgrounds (PhD preferred) are encouraged.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities focus on performance modeling and analysis to inform CPU design.

  • Develop and maintain cycle-accurate and statistical performance models and simulation setups.
  • Use tools such as gem5, SST, SimpleScalar, or equivalent simulators to evaluate microarchitectural changes.
  • Analyze AI and HPC workloads to identify bottlenecks and recommend architectural trade-offs.
  • Implement analysis and tooling in C++, Python, or similar languages for automation and data processing.
  • Collaborate with CPU architects, firmware, and software teams to translate modeling results into design guidance.
  • Document experiments, present findings, and help prioritize architectural improvements.

Requirements

Required technical skills and eligibility criteria.

  • 1–5 years of industry experience or equivalent research experience in CPU architecture, microarchitecture, or performance analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with performance modeling or simulation environments (e.g., gem5, SST, SimpleScalar, or equivalents).
  • Strong programming skills in C++, Python, or similar languages used for modeling and data analysis.
  • Deep understanding of processor subsystems: instruction scheduling, branch prediction, caches, memory hierarchy, prefetching, and execution pipelines.
  • Experience with CPU core, mid-core, or microarchitecture development via industry, research, or advanced academic projects.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to work across architecture, software, and systems teams.
  • Employment contingent on eligibility to access U.S. export-controlled technologies; candidates must be able to satisfy export-control requirements (citizenship, permanent residency, or obtain required licenses) where applicable.

Education Requirements

PhD preferred, MS considered, in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field; or equivalent practical or research experience.
