Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced, talented, and motivated Process Design Kit (PDK) Development Engineer to join our PDK development team within the Engineering Enablement organization. This role is responsible for ensuring the development, delivery, and support of all components of a PDK.
Experience Level
Mid-level, 4+ years of experience in PDK development or related semiconductor field.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities include:
- Develop and maintain comprehensive PDKs that accurately represent semiconductor process technologies.
- Implement and maintain DRC/LVS/RC extraction rule decks using industry-standard EDA tools.
- Create and support parameterized layout cells (pcells) using Cadence Skill and related scripting languages.
- Develop automation scripts to streamline layout generation, verification, and design environment setup.
- Collaborate with process development, integration, and design teams.
- Build and improve PDK QA flows and validation methodologies.
- Provide documentation and technical support to internal design teams and external PDK users.
- Ensure all deliverables meet foundry-defined design compliance rules (DRC/LVS).
- Work with EDA vendors, IP providers, and internal stakeholders to align PDK updates with technology roadmaps and customer needs.
- Contribute to the continuous enhancement of PDK infrastructure and layout automation frameworks.
Requirements
Qualifications include:
- Bachelors or Masters in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- 4+ years experience in PDK development in the semiconductor field.
- Proven experience in PDK development and EDA tool integration.
- Strong programming/scripting skills (Skill, TCL, Python, or Perl).
- Experience with DRC/LVS rule deck creation and validation methodologies.
- Solid understanding of semiconductor design rules and layout concepts.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working in cross-functional teams.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities in a fast-paced environment.
Education Requirements
BS/MS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
