Senior PCIe Design Engineer
ArmJob Title
Senior PCIe Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and deliver high-quality PCIe/CXL I/O subsystem IP and integrations for SoC platforms. You will write micro-architecture specifications, develop RTL, debug designs, and collaborate with verification, backend implementation, performance analysis, and project management teams.
The role sits on a hardware/IP design team focused on integrating I/O subsystems into compute SoCs and improving design methodology and performance.
Experience Level
Senior — typically 5+ years of relevant SoC or compute subsystem design experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include technical design, implementation, verification support, and cross-team collaboration to deliver production SoC IP.
- Write micro-architecture and design specifications for I/O subsystems.
- Develop and maintain RTL (Verilog) for PCIe/CXL and related IP.
- Fix functional bugs and support integration/debug across software and verification teams.
- Review verification test plans and assist with root-cause analysis of failures.
- Work with performance analysis to measure and improve system performance.
- Support backend implementation: floorplanning, constraints, and timing closure.
- Contribute to and improve team design methodologies and flows.
- Mentor and support other engineers and collaborate with project management on schedules and plans.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience required to perform the role.
- 5+ years experience designing complex compute subsystems or SoCs.
- Strong digital hardware design skills and hands-on Verilog HDL experience.
- Experience developing and integrating subsystems for PCIe, CXL, UCIe, or Ethernet.
- Experience creating design specifications and delivering RTL for SoC projects.
- Familiarity with static design checks (CDC, RDC, X-propagation, linting).
- Experience with scripting languages such as Perl or Python for automation and tooling.
- Experience collaborating with verification, backend implementation, and performance teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with ARM-based designs or ARM system architectures.
- Leadership experience managing small teams or projects.
- Knowledge of synthesis and timing analysis, power management, DFT, or physical implementation.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
