Job Title
Senior PCIe Analog Characterization Engineer
Role Summary
Validate and characterize high-speed PCIe interfaces (Gen5–Gen7) on silicon platforms. Work on electrical compliance testing and measurements, and collaborate with PHY, silicon, firmware, package, board, and signal-integrity teams to ensure products meet PCI-SIG requirements.
Experience Level
Senior — typically 5+ years of relevant experience as stated in the posting.
Responsibilities
Key duties include electrical validation, compliance testing, and cross-functional debugging to qualify PCIe interfaces.
- Conduct electrical compliance validation of PCIe TX and RX for PCIe Gen5, Gen6, and Gen7 devices.
- Perform PCI-SIG compliance measurements using high-speed oscilloscopes, BERTs, protocol analyzers, and related equipment.
- Characterize high-speed interfaces and debug electrical, interoperability, and link-training issues.
- Develop and execute validation plans, analyze results, and produce clear technical reports.
- Collaborate with PHY, silicon development, firmware, package, board, and signal-integrity teams to identify root causes and drive product improvements.
- Support PCI-SIG compliance workshops and product qualification activities.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and practical experience required for the role; nice-to-have items listed after.
-
Must-have: 5+ years validating high-speed serial interfaces with strong PCIe expertise.
-
Must-have: Practical experience with PCIe TX and RX compliance testing (eye diagrams, jitter analysis, equalization verification, receiver tolerance testing).
-
Must-have: Strong understanding of PCIe architecture, link training, signal integrity, and high-speed electrical measurements.
-
Must-have: Experience with PCIe Gen5 required; familiarity with Gen6/Gen7 highly preferred.
-
Must-have: Proficiency with laboratory equipment: high-bandwidth oscilloscopes, BERTs, protocol analyzers, network analyzers.
-
Must-have: Experience with PCIe conformance software and automated test environments.
-
Nice-to-have: Programming/scripting for test automation (Python or similar).
-
Nice-to-have: Strong analytical, debugging, and cross-team communication skills; ability to work in a fast-paced development environment.
