Job Title

Senior PCBA Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design and deliver high-speed printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) and associated subsystems for semiconductor metrology products. Work within the Central Engineering / Global Products Group to define hardware, perform lab characterization, and deliver production-ready PCBA solutions.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, mentor junior engineers, and support qualification and integration activities for advanced FPGA/SERDES/PCIe-based designs.

Experience Level

Senior — the role targets experienced engineers; the posting requests 5+ years relevant PCBA design experience (see Education Requirements for degree-to-experience mapping).

Responsibilities

Primary duties include design, verification, and integration of high-speed PCBAs and supporting lab work.

  • Develop high-speed PCBA features (analog, communications, DSP, FPGA, SERDES, PCIe) and meet performance and schedule objectives.
  • Characterize components and PCB stack-ups; design and prototype analog front-ends; produce schematics and direct PCB layout.
  • Debug PCBAs in lab environments using oscilloscopes, spectrum/network analyzers, and other test equipment.
  • Define and execute test criteria and qualification test plans for prototypes and subsystems.
  • Design qualification fixtures and modify/integrate existing electrical designs to achieve system functionality.
  • Collaborate across groups to ensure seamless subsystem and system-level integration and handoff to manufacturing.
  • Mentor and support junior electrical engineers on technical and project tasks.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and professional capabilities.

  • 5+ years of PCBA design experience preferred, with demonstrable high-speed design work (FPGA, PCIe, SERDES).
  • Strong fundamentals in electrical engineering and physics (analog, electromagnetic theory, optoelectronics knowledge helpful).
  • Ability to write specifications and product release documentation.
  • Experience with schematic entry and PCB layout tools (OrCAD preferred for schematics; Cadence Allegro preferred for layout).
  • Proficiency in laboratory test and debug equipment and procedures.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with 10+ GHz designs and advanced substrate materials.
  • Spice and electromagnetic (EM) simulation experience.
  • Opto-electrical design experience.
  • Data analysis using MATLAB, Python, or similar tools.
  • Firmware development experience.

Education Requirements

Minimum qualifications specify degree-to-experience mappings: Doctorate (PhD) — 0 years related experience; Master’s — 3 years related experience; Bachelor’s — 5 years related experience. Relevant fields implied include Electrical Engineering, Physics, optoelectronics, or related technical disciplines. No specific certifications were listed.
