Senior or Staff Photolithography Materials Engineer
Role Summary
R&D role responsible for selection, optimization, and integration of photolithography materials for advanced memory device development. Work spans resist and hardmask materials for I-line through EUV and includes pilot manufacturing support and manufacturability improvements.
Experience Level
Senior / Staff level. Preferred experience guidance by degree: Bachelor's +5 years, Master's +3 years, PhD +1 year in lithography (see Education Requirements).
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities include materials development, evaluation, and cross-functional integration.
- Lead long-term photoresist and hardmask screening programs; define success criteria and manage DOE cycles with suppliers.
- Evaluate candidate materials on devices in technology development and recommend top materials for detailed study.
- Direct material optimization and development efforts with external suppliers while protecting IP.
- Integrate new photo materials into pilot manufacturing and resolve process/material issues to improve manufacturability.
- Operate in a cleanroom environment following safety procedures and using appropriate PPE for handling photoresists and chemicals.
- Collaborate across sites and organizations within the company to meet technology and manufacturing goals.
- Use AI-driven workflows with human review to automate data analysis and repetitive tasks.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and abilities.
- Knowledge of chemical processes specific to photolithography and photomaterials for 365 nm, 248 nm, 193 nm, and EUV (13.5 nm).
- Practical statistical analysis skills, including design of experiments (DOE) and data interpretation.
- Experience handling photoresists and chemicals in a cleanroom environment and following safety protocols.
- Strong written and verbal communication; able to produce concise executive summaries and present to technical and supplier teams.
- Ability to work effectively across multiple sites and cross-functional teams.
- Familiarity with statistical analysis software (JMP or similar) is preferred.
- Knowledge of optics for photolithography or diffraction-limited imaging is a plus.
- Experience optimizing photoresist chemistry for 193 nm immersion or EUV and working with suppliers on customized solutions is preferred.
Education Requirements
Preferred: Bachelor's degree in engineering or other technical field with 5+ years' experience in lithography; Master's degree with 3+ years' experience; or PhD with 1+ year of experience in lithography. Coursework or industry experience demonstrating strong statistical analysis (DOE) skills is expected.
