Senior OPC Applications Engineer
Role Summary
Provide technical applications support for Proteus OPC and computational lithography tools to semiconductor manufacturing customers. Diagnose production issues, deploy and qualify software releases at customer sites, and coordinate resolutions across Product Engineering and R&D teams.
This role sits within the Proteus OPC Customer Support organization and works closely with customer OPC/RET/process integration teams and R&D in the US and Taiwan.
Experience Level
Senior - typically requires 5+ years of hands-on experience in semiconductor manufacturing, computational lithography, OPC/RET, mask synthesis, or EDA applications support.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include customer support, deployment, performance optimization, and cross-team coordination.
- Support customers using Proteus OPC and related lithography tools; diagnose software, workflow, model, and runtime issues affecting production tapeouts.
- Perform root-cause analysis and coordinate fixes across R&D, Product Engineering, and customer teams in multiple time zones.
- Deploy and qualify Proteus releases at customer sites; validate workflows for beta and production migrations.
- Advise on runtime performance, HPC utilization, job scheduling, and scalability for high-volume manufacturing.
- Build and maintain technical relationships with customer OPC, RET, and process integration teams; lead technical reviews and act as customer advocate.
- Capture enhancement requests and communicate customer requirements to Product Management and R&D.
- Create application notes, troubleshooting guides, training materials, and mentor junior engineers.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- 5+ years supporting production semiconductor customers in a technical or applications engineering capacity.
- Hands-on experience with computational lithography, OPC, RET, mask synthesis, or EDA applications support.
- Strong knowledge of semiconductor process technology and lithography fundamentals, including how OPC affects manufacturing outcomes.
- Proficiency in Linux and scripting (Python, Perl, Tcl, Shell) for automation and troubleshooting.
- Experience diagnosing production issues under time pressure and coordinating across time zones.
- Effective communication skills to translate between process engineers and R&D/product teams.
- Nice-to-have: direct experience with Synopsys Proteus OPC solutions, lithography simulation, or mask data preparation.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical discipline is expected. A Master’s degree or PhD in a relevant engineering or physical sciences field is a plus. Equivalent practical experience is implicitly acceptable based on the years-of-experience requirement.
