Senior NPI Product Engineer
SemtechJob Title
Senior NPI Product Engineer
Role Summary
Lead New Product Introduction (NPI) activities from concept through high-volume manufacturing for optical and analog/mixed-signal IC products. Work cross-functionally with Design, Test, Validation, Quality, Reliability, Applications and Operations to ensure product conformance, manufacturability and transfer to production.
This role focuses on design-for-testability/manufacturability, product characterization, ATE-to-bench correlation, yield optimization and production release support.
Experience Level
Senior - requires substantial experience; the role expects a minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience.
Responsibilities
Accountable for technical leadership of NPI programs, defining testability/manufacturability requirements, validating datasheet specifications, and driving yield and quality improvements.
- Lead NPI programs from product concept to production release and maintenance, ensuring conformance to specifications and transfer to full-volume manufacturing.
- Collaborate with Project Lead, Design, Test Engineering, Characterization, Validation, Quality, Reliability, Applications and Operations to meet milestones and deliverables.
- Define and enforce DfM/DfT requirements; provide implementation feedback to design teams.
- Support and verify ATE test program development, ATE-to-bench correlation, and test cost/coverage optimization.
- Develop and execute product characterization plans (wafer-level and bench), including PVT coverage and correlation studies.
- Perform data analysis (PCM, yield modeling, DOE) to identify and resolve yield limiters and optimize test time.
- Plan and support validation and reliability qualification activities in coordination with Test and Reliability teams.
- Work with foundry and packaging engineering on fabrication, packaging, die sort and test process issues; lead failure analysis and corrective actions for field returns.
- Prepare NPI product release and OSAT manufacturing documentation and support continuous improvement and cost-reduction initiatives.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior product engineers.
Requirements
Practical skills and domain experience required to perform the responsibilities below.
Must-have:
- Extensive experience in semiconductor product, test or design engineering (minimum 8 years overall experience expected).
- Hands-on experience with quality systems and corrective action processes (8D reports, non-conformance and failure analysis reporting).
- Proficiency in statistical analysis and data tools for DOE, yield reporting and modelling (examples: Excel, JMP, Galaxy, dataConductor).
- Strong knowledge of high-speed serial digital interconnect components and test methodologies.
- Experience defining DfT/DfM and collaborating with test/design teams to ensure manufacturability and test coverage.
- Ability to lead product characterization, ATE-to-bench correlation and yield optimization activities.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with high-speed digital ATE platforms (Advantest, Teradyne) or equivalent rack solutions.
- Familiarity with JEDEC and/or MIL quality requirements and qualification flows.
- Previous experience working with foundry process and packaging teams on root-cause and corrective action implementation.
Education Requirements
BSc in Electrical Engineering or a related field is stated as the required degree. The posting specifies a minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience. No alternative degree-equivalent language was provided in the source.
