Senior ML Compiler Engineer
FractileJob Title
Senior ML Compiler Engineer
Role Summary
Develop the machine-learning compiler stack for Fractile’s AI accelerators to enable high-performance inference for large language models. Work at the intersection of hardware, runtime/driver, and ML teams to define IR, lowering strategy, optimisation passes, and the execution model.
Role is office-based in London or Bristol and focuses on hardware–software co-design to maximise inference throughput and efficiency.
Experience Level
Senior — typically 4+ years industry experience in compilers, systems, or ML infrastructure.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Design and implement compiler IR, lowering, and optimisation passes targeting Fractile accelerators.
- Profile, tune, and optimise LLMs to maximise performance on custom hardware.
- Integrate compiler outputs with runtime and driver software; support end-to-end execution flows.
- Write and maintain high-quality C/C++ code and development tooling for the compiler/runtime stack.
- Define testing, benchmarking, and validation processes to measure performance and correctness.
- Collaborate closely with hardware engineers in a hardware–software co-design process.
Requirements
Must-have qualifications and skills:
- Proven experience developing ML compilers using technologies such as MLIR or TVM.
- Strong C/C++ skills and familiarity with industry-standard development tools.
- Good understanding of computer architecture and performance optimisation techniques.
- Up-to-date knowledge of machine learning techniques and frameworks relevant to LLMs.
- Experience working in collaborative hardware–software teams and driving technical decisions.
- Approximately 4+ years of industry experience in compiler, systems, or ML engineering.
- Nice-to-have: prior experience at a startup or in a small engineering team.
Education Requirements
Degree in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field (e.g., Bachelor’s or equivalent). The role expects roughly 4+ years of industry experience.
