Senior MES & Automation Engineer
Role Summary
Design, develop, integrate, test, deploy, and support MES and factory automation solutions for semiconductor manufacturing equipment. Work with IT, Engineering, Production and other stakeholders to ensure equipment and systems are integrated, traceable, and operate reliably.
Experience Level
Senior - minimum 5 years of relevant MES, automation, or manufacturing systems engineering experience; at least 3 years hands-on SECS/GEM experience preferred.
Responsibilities
Deliver MES and equipment automation across the project lifecycle and support production ramp-up and operations.
- Design, configure, and maintain MES master data, process flows, routing, constraint and dispatch management, and DOE functionality.
- Develop, customise and validate SECS/GEM interfaces and templates; support SECS-I and HSMS connectivity.
- Perform equipment characterisation, automation simulation, testing, validation, and troubleshooting.
- Develop custom automation interlocks and support equipment with limited VIDs.
- Integrate MES with equipment, ERP, SCADA, PLCs, historians, databases and other factory systems via APIs and web services.
- Manage technical deliverables, project timelines, testing, deployment, documentation and risk for multiple concurrent projects.
- Provide production support, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement for MES and automation systems.
- Support Industry 4.0, digital manufacturing and smart factory initiatives within integration projects.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for successful performance in this role.
- Minimum 5 years relevant MES, automation, or manufacturing systems engineering experience.
- Minimum 3 years hands-on SECS/GEM development, template creation, equipment automation, or semiconductor equipment integration.
- Proven experience with MES architecture, master data, flow creation, constraint/dispatch management and DOE.
- Practical experience with SECS-I, HSMS and SECS/GEM protocols and equipment connectivity.
- Experience in semiconductor equipment automation, equipment characterisation, simulation, testing and validation.
- Experience integrating MES with ERP, SCADA, PLC, historian, and databases; familiarity with APIs and web services.
- Hands-on software skills: one or more of C++, C#, .NET, Java, Python, JavaScript and object-oriented programming.
- Experience with Oracle/SQL databases and general database concepts.
- Ability to prepare technical documentation, specifications, test plans, validation records and reports.
- Demonstrated delivery of MES or automation projects from design through deployment and production support.
