Job Title

Senior MEMS Design and Simulation Engineer

Role Summary

Senior engineer responsible for designing, simulating, and characterizing MEMS devices and packages from concept to productization within the Advanced MEMS Development group (Aerospace, Defense, and Communications Business Unit).

Work involves package and device co-simulation, material validation, lab characterization, and cross-disciplinary collaboration with packaging, ASIC, and IMU system teams.

Experience Level

Senior. Candidate should have advanced industry experience; PhD preferred or a Master's degree with at least 3+ years of MEMS industry experience.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities focus on simulation, design validation, characterization, and transferring MEMS designs to production.

  • Simulate and validate MEMS package stresses across environmental conditions (solder effects, temperature, humidity, etc.).
  • Develop and standardize package simulation flows and co-simulation methodologies across the MEMS portfolio.
  • Work with vendors and collaborators to validate material properties and apply findings to packaging and IMU systems.
  • Design and productize inertial sensors (gyroscopes, accelerometers), IMUs, and related MEMS devices.
  • Characterize fabricated MEMS devices at wafer and part level using probers and lab instruments (spectrum analyzers, lock-in amplifiers, etc.).
  • Simulate device performance accounting for fab, package, and assembly variations.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to transfer designs from concept to production.

Requirements

Required technical skills and experience.

  • Proven record of MEMS innovation or successful MEMS product development.
  • Hands-on experience with MEMS package simulation across environmental stresses.
  • Practical knowledge of material properties and their effects on MEMS performance over temperature and humidity, with strong documentation and communication skills.
  • Hands-on MEMS characterization and probe/test development; ability to develop probe/test algorithms for efficiency, debugging, and calibration.
  • Strong analytical and simulation skills for MEMS gyroscope design and co-design with ASIC, package, and IMU; ability to develop SPICE models and analytical nonlinear coupling models using Simulink or Python.
  • Deep understanding of MEMS error sources and lab verification using probe and bench equipment.
  • Strong mathematical/analytical capability to derive closed-form electromechanical models and transfer functions.
  • Experience with Python, MATLAB, and LabVIEW.
  • Experience with FEA tools such as Ansys or Comsol.
  • Experience in linear and nonlinear control systems.
  • Experience with MEMS process, packaging, and manufacturing technologies.
  • Note: Positions requiring access to certain technical data may require export-licensing review for non-US persons.

Education Requirements

PhD in electrical or mechanical engineering preferred, or a Master’s degree in a relevant technical field plus at least 3 years of MEMS industry experience.
