Job Title
Senior MEMS Design and Simulation Engineer
Role Summary
Senior engineer in the Advanced MEMS Development group responsible for designing, simulating, and characterizing MEMS devices and packages to move concepts toward production. Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, vendors, and manufacturing to ensure device performance across process, package, and assembly variations.
Focus areas include high-performance inertial gyroscopes, accelerometers, IMUs, package co-simulations, and device characterization at wafer and part level.
Experience Level
Senior-level individual contributor or technical lead. Requires extensive hands-on MEMS design, simulation, characterization, and productization experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include device and package simulation, characterization, and production transfer:
- Simulate and validate MEMS package stresses across environmental conditions (solder, temperature, humidity).
- Develop and standardize package simulation flows and co-simulation methodologies across the MEMS portfolio.
- Design and simulate MEMS devices accounting for fabrication, packaging, and assembly variations.
- Characterize fabricated devices at wafer and part level using probe stations and bench equipment (e.g., spectrum analyzer, lock-in amplifier).
- Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to validate material properties and document cross-domain learnings for packaging and system teams.
- Develop SPICE models and analytical nonlinear coupling models (Simulink or Python) for device–ASIC co-design.
- Develop probe/test algorithms to improve test efficiency, debug error sources, and support calibrations.
- Transfer MEMS designs from concept through validation to production with multidisciplinary teams.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Proven track record of MEMS innovation and successful product development.
- Hands-on experience with MEMS package simulations and understanding of package–device interactions.
- Experience assessing material-property effects on MEMS performance over temperature and humidity; strong documentation and communication skills.
- Hands-on MEMS characterization and probe/test development; ability to develop algorithms for testing and debugging.
- Strong analytical and simulation skills for MEMS gyroscope and IMU design; ability to develop SPICE and analytical models.
- Proficiency in Python and MATLAB; experience with LabVIEW.
- Experience with FEA tools such as Ansys or Comsol.
- Knowledge of linear and nonlinear control systems and MEMS process, packaging, and manufacturing technologies.
Education Requirements
PhD in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred; alternatively, a Master’s degree in a related engineering field plus at least 3 years of MEMS industry experience.
