Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
PsiQuantumJob Title
Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and deliver complex optomechanical/optoelectronic subsystem assemblies from prototype to production. Collaborate with cryogenics, optics, electronics, manufacturing, and test teams to meet manufacturability, assembly, and performance requirements.
Daily work requires applying DFM, precision mechanics, thermal and structural considerations in a semiconductor and photonics environment.
Experience Level
Senior. The posting specifies 2–5 years of relevant experience focused on optomechanical design and/or optoelectronic packaging.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include ownership of mechanical design through production and supporting manufacturing and test.
- Own designs from prototype through production and maintain engineering revision control.
- Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
- Define and apply GD&T; perform tolerance analysis to support high‑precision assemblies.
- Generate and maintain BOMs, build standards, and process flow documentation.
- Conduct DFMEA/PFMEA and produce risk analysis heat maps.
- Design and fabricate fixtures and test setups.
- Execute basic structural and thermal analyses to down-select designs.
- Use PLM/PDM systems (e.g., SolidWorks PDM, Arena) for change control and documentation.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- Experience designing mechanical assemblies for opto-electronic devices (optical transceivers, co-packaged optics, datacenter switching systems).
- Strong mechanical design skills: mechanics of materials, thermodynamics, precision design.
- Proven ability with GD&T, tolerance analysis, and DFM/DFA practices.
- Ability to perform basic structural and thermal analyses.
- Experience creating BOMs, process documentation, and performing DFMEA/PFMEA.
- Familiarity with PLM/PDM and engineering revision control workflows.
- Strong communication, teamwork, independent judgment, and the ability to deliver against schedule and quality targets.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience designing systems for cryogenic or vacuum environments.
- Experience with liquid cooling and cold plate assemblies.
Education Requirements
Master's degree or above in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant discipline.
