Senior Mask Design Engineer – Hardware

Role Summary

Design and develop detailed physical layouts for silicon interposers used in NVIDIA products. Work closely with the Package Technical Lead (PTL), I/O signal integrity, technology and design teams to deliver manufacturable, cost-effective package solutions.

Experience Level

Senior-level. The role requires at least 5+ years of proven experience in mask and layout design for semiconductor technologies.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

• Collaborate cross-functionally with PTL, SI, technology and design teams to define package layout solutions and schedules.
• Perform physical layout for silicon interposers using Cadence tools (Virtuoso).
• Conduct design feasibility studies to evaluate size, cost and system performance trade-offs.
• Develop floorplans and perform custom layout; verify against design rules, netlists and manufacturing constraints.
• Identify and propose layout trade-offs to the PTL and follow through to implementation.
• Support resolution of manufacturing, cost and electrical design issues related to package layout.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

• Minimum of 5+ years proven experience in mask and layout design.
• Deep understanding of layout concepts in submicron CMOS technologies.
• Expertise with Cadence layout tools, particularly Virtuoso.
• Experience with verification and debugging tools such as Calibre, ICV, Thunder.
• Proficient in scripting (Perl, Python, Skill) to automate flows.
• Knowledge of DRC and LVS checking flows and ability to customize decks.
• Effective teamwork, communication skills, and ability to work in cross-functional teams.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience with Integrity auto-routing.
• Familiarity with APD package layout tool.
• Broad understanding of packaging technology and constraints.

Education Requirements

B.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
