Senior Mask Design Engineer - Hardware
Role Summary
Responsible for physical mask/layout of high-speed mixed-signal and analog circuits for VLSI products. The role focuses on custom layout, floor planning, and ensuring designs meet schematic and verification requirements in sub-micron CMOS technologies.
Work in a cross-functional hardware team with ASIC, mixed-signal, and verification engineers to integrate custom layouts into production designs.
Experience Level
Senior — typically requires 8+ years of industry experience.
Responsibilities
Key day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Perform physical layout for mixed-signal functions such as PLLs, high-speed SerDes, ADCs, and ESD structures using Cadence custom layout tools.
- Collaborate with ASIC and mixed-signal engineers to adapt and customize designs for VLSI integration.
- Participate in floor planning, custom layout implementation, and schematic/DRC/LVS verification.
- Run and debug verification and yield tools as part of sign-off flows.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Deep understanding of analog circuit layout concepts in sub-micron CMOS technologies.
- Expertise with Cadence custom circuit design/layout tools.
- Experience running and debugging verification and yield tools such as Dracula, Hercules, Calibre, and PrimeYield.
- Proficiency in scripting (Perl, Python, SKILL) to support automation and layout tasks.
- Knowledge of DRC and LVS flows and ability to customize decks for target technologies.
- Strong teamwork, communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or equivalent practical experience.
