Senior Manufacturing Software Engineer
Role Summary
Build the software platform that powers manufacturing test across new product introduction and mass production for Etched's AI systems. This role sits inside Manufacturing Test Engineering and partners with hardware, firmware, software, quality, and factory operations.
You will develop backend services, APIs, data pipelines, release infrastructure, and test-station software to enable scalable, automated manufacturing with traceability and production-ready reliability.
Experience Level
Senior-level. The role expects about 6+ years of experience building production software, backend services, or data platforms.
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities include designing, building, and operating software that supports manufacturing and factory operations.
- Design and implement backend services, APIs, and data pipelines for manufacturing test and factory operations.
- Own software for release management, deployment, versioning, and traceability across production environments.
- Develop scalable platforms for test results, yield analysis, genealogy, and production reporting.
- Build reusable test station applications, operator interfaces, and automation frameworks.
- Integrate manufacturing software with MES, SFIS, and other factory systems used by contract manufacturers.
- Partner with NPI, hardware, firmware, software, quality, and operations teams to support product development through production ramp.
- Productionize prototype engineering tools into reliable, production-ready software.
- Travel domestically and internationally to support factory bring-up and production deployments.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- 6+ years building production software, backend services, or data platforms.
- Strong Python development experience (or equivalent expertise in Go, Java, C#, or TypeScript with Python proficiency).
- Solid software engineering fundamentals: testing, CI/CD, version control, code review, debugging, and production monitoring.
- Experience designing scalable APIs, databases, data models, and distributed systems.
- Experience integrating software with external systems and operating reliable production services.
- Experience developing internal applications, dashboards, or operator-facing software.
- Comfort owning technical architecture and building greenfield platforms.
- Willingness to work onsite from the San Jose office and travel internationally to manufacturing partners as needed.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
