Job Title

Senior Manager Customer Debug Support Engineering

Role Summary

Lead a customer-facing debug engineering team in the Platform Field Engineering group (DPEG) to manage server- and rack-level hardware and firmware debug during customer bring-up, early deployment, and ODM factory build (NPI). Act as the technical bridge between AMD engineering, large data center customers, and global ODM partners.

Based in Seattle, WA; responsible for technical direction, talent development, issue resolution, and keeping customer deployments and ramp schedules on track.

Experience Level

Senior-level. The role requires prior people-management and technical leadership experience in data center, cloud, or related hardware environments (years of experience not specified).

Responsibilities

Accountable for customer debug operations, team leadership, and cross-functional coordination from bring-up through production.

  • Build, lead, and mentor a team of customer-facing debug engineers covering server and rack-level HW/FW debug across customer deployment and NPI.
  • Lead debug of platform bring-up, fleet anomalies, and early field failures at customer sites; drive issues to root cause and feed learnings back into design, validation, and manufacturing.
  • Serve as the senior escalation point for complex server/rack debug and own the customer-facing narrative through to closure.
  • Own debug status tracking, prioritization, and roll-up updates for internal and external leadership.
  • Support HW/FW failure triage during ODM factory builds and EVT/DVT/PVT gates to drive definitive root cause and corrective action.
  • Coordinate debug across design, validation, product engineering, firmware, and FA teams to align platform readiness and deployment schedules.
  • Prioritize scarce hardware, enable remote debug when physical access is limited, and maximize coverage via shared setups.
  • Engage with customers, ODM teams, and Customer Program Managers; advise on tools, methodologies, and documentation.

Requirements

Must-have technical leadership and hands-on debug experience; preferred skills listed below.

  • Proven people leadership managing customer-facing technical teams, including hiring, performance management, and mentoring.
  • Hands-on experience with server- and rack-level hardware and firmware debug across CPU, GPU, FPGA, memory, connectivity, RAS, and hotplug.
  • Familiarity with hardware bring-up, validation, manufacturing, and test flows through EVT/DVT/PVT to volume production.
  • Ability to drive execution and influence across global, cross-functional teams without direct authority.
  • Experience supporting large-scale deployments and managing debug or quality programs for hyperscale, OEM, enterprise customers, or global ODM partners.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; able to distill complex technical issues into decision-oriented messaging for executives and customers.
  • This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship; applicants must have authorization to work in the United States.

Nice-to-have:

  • Working knowledge of reliability and quality metrics (yield, DPM, FIT) and failure triage/FA engagement.
  • Experience leveraging AI tools to optimize debug and quality workflows.
  • Background in data center, GPU, cloud, or HPC environments.

Education Requirements

Required: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline. Preferred: Master's degree in a related technical field.
