Senior Manager Customer Debug Engineering
Advanced Micro DevicesJob Title
Senior Manager Customer Debug Engineering
Role Summary
Lead a Platform Field Engineering team in the Data Center Platform Engineering Group (DPEG) responsible for server- and rack-level hardware and firmware debug during customer bring-up, early deployment, and ODM factory build (NPI). The team is AMD's technical interface to large data center customers and ODM partners, driving issues to root cause and maintaining deployment schedules.
Experience Level
Senior. The posting expects established leadership of customer-facing technical teams; no explicit years-of-experience requirement is provided.
Responsibilities
Own technical direction, delivery, and customer-facing debug operations across bring-up, deployment, and factory build.
- Build, lead, mentor, and scale a team of customer-facing debug engineers for server/rack HW and firmware.
- Lead debug of platform bring-up, fleet anomalies, and early field failures at customer sites and in factories.
- Serve as senior escalation point for complex server/rack issues and own the customer-facing narrative through resolution.
- Track and prioritize debug status; produce clear, decision-oriented updates for internal and customer leadership.
- Support HW/FW failure triage during ODM factory build and EVT/DVT/PVT gates to drive corrective action.
- Coordinate cross-functionally with design, validation, product engineering, firmware, and failure analysis teams.
- Prioritize scarce hardware resources, enable effective remote debug, and maximize coverage via shared setups.
- Engage with customers, ODM teams, and program managers; advise on tools, methodologies, and documentation.
Requirements
Key must-have and preferred capabilities. Education details are listed separately below.
- Must-have: Proven experience managing customer-facing technical or engineering teams, including hiring, mentoring, and performance management.
- Must-have: Deep hands-on experience with server- and rack-level hardware and firmware debug (pre- and post-silicon) across CPU, GPU, FPGA, memory, connectivity, RAS, and hotplug.
- Must-have: Familiarity with hardware bring-up, validation, manufacturing, and test flows and the transition through EVT/DVT/PVT to volume production.
- Must-have: Ability to drive execution across global cross-functional teams and influence without direct authority.
- Must-have: Strong written and verbal communication; able to distill complex technical issues for executive audiences and customers.
- Must-have: Eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.
- Nice-to-have: Experience supporting hyperscale/OEM/ODM deployments, familiarity with quality/reliability metrics (yield, DPM, FIT), and experience leveraging AI tools for debug and quality workflows.
Education Requirements
Required: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline. Preferred: Master's degree in a related technical field.
