Senior IC Validation Engineer
Role Summary
Validate Broadcom storage and PCIe switch silicon across pre- and post-silicon cycles. Work in lab and emulation environments to develop and execute system-level validation, debug issues, and collaborate with design, firmware, FPGA emulation, and board teams.
Experience Level
Senior. Role expects experienced engineers: typically 5+ years industry experience with a Bachelor’s in Electrical/Computer Engineering or 3+ years with a Master’s in Electrical/Computer Engineering (see Education Requirements for details).
Responsibilities
Main responsibilities include planning and executing system validation and debugging at the board and system level.
- Design, review, and run validation test plans on emulation platforms and prototype silicon.
- Develop embedded firmware and host software tools in C/C++ for system validation.
- Write automation and test scripts (Python) to control protocol exercisers and lab equipment.
- Collaborate with software, FPGA emulation, IC design, and board development teams during pre/post-silicon cycles.
- Drive technical debug and implement workarounds or fixes for complex system-level issues.
- Support customer silicon bring-up and system integration/troubleshooting.
- Present technical results to engineering teams and assist documentation and field enablement.
Requirements
Key must-have skills and attributes; preferred items are noted.
- Must have: Legal authorization to work in the US.
- Must have: Experience developing and debugging C/C++ code (embedded firmware and host drivers/applications).
- Must have: Experience developing/debugging automated test scripts in Python.
- Must have: Solid understanding of computer architecture and system-level operation.
- Must have: Practical system-level debug experience using firmware debuggers, logic analyzers, and protocol analyzers.
- Must have: Experience working in Linux environments.
- Must have: Ability to work independently under tight schedules; strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Nice to have: ARM architecture and firmware programming experience.
- Nice to have: PCIe protocol experience (Gen3/4/5), including LTSSM, enumeration, and configuration space knowledge.
- Nice to have: Familiarity with PCB concepts and ability to read board-level schematics.
Education Requirements
Minimum: Master’s degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering plus 3+ years industry experience, OR Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering/Computer Engineering plus 5+ years industry experience. No certifications specified. (Equivalent practical experience is represented by the alternate degree/years combinations above.)
