Senior Hardware Product Manager - IoT Wireless
Silicon LabsJob Title
Senior Hardware Product Manager - IoT Wireless
Role Summary
Lead product definition and execution for Silicon Labs' IoT system-on-chip (SoC) hardware portfolio from concept through customer alpha and production planning. Work on cross-functional teams including silicon design, validation, software, test, and business management to define SoC features, system KPIs, and product roadmaps targeting wireless IoT applications.
The role focuses on wireless connectivity technologies (Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, Thread, Zigbee, Matter, proprietary protocols) and associated system-level hardware requirements, developer tools, and evaluation platforms.
Experience Level
Senior - typically requires 6+ years of relevant experience in semiconductor product management, IoT, or related technical roles.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include product definition, roadmap development, cross-functional alignment, and competitive analysis for SoC hardware aimed at IoT applications.
- Define SoC product requirements, features, specifications, and system KPIs for CPU, co-processors, accelerators, power management, peripherals, security, radio subsystems, and packages.
- Translate market and system application requirements into product use cases, block diagrams, compute/peripheral needs, and protocol stack feature/performance targets for Wi‑Fi, Matter, Thread, Zigbee, BLE, Bluetooth Classic, Sidewalk, Wi‑SUN, and proprietary protocols.
- Specify hardware and customer evaluation tools (debug interfaces, trace, virtual comms, user I/O) and define developer experience requirements.
- Collaborate with IC design, product test, software, marketing, applications, operations, and sales to develop roadmaps and silicon definitions.
- Drive product development from concept to definition and present prioritized product proposals to executive leadership.
- Perform competitive analysis including die‑level teardown and specification comparisons to inform design and positioning.
- Manage a portfolio of scalable products mapped to target applications and market segments.
Requirements
Key technical and professional requirements. Must-have items are listed first; desirable skills follow.
- Must-have: 6+ years of experience in semiconductor product management or the IoT industry with hands-on technical engagement.
- Core development experience in IC front end, architecture, verification, or embedded systems engineering.
- Familiarity with architectural tradeoffs for power, performance, area (PPA), power estimation, die‑size estimation, and process node fundamentals.
- Understanding of wireless modem and RF design principles for Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, 802.15.4, or other low-power wireless standards.
- Proven ability to work effectively with cross-functional engineering teams (hardware and software).
- Experience developing technology investment business cases and performing sensitivity analysis with business partners.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, including executive-level briefings.
- Nice-to-have: Development experience with wired or other wireless communication protocols; experience with evaluation/debug toolchains and customer-facing engineering support.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Computer Science (BSCS) or equivalent practical experience; MBA or equivalent graduate business degree is a plus.
