Senior Hardware Product Manager - IoT Wireless
Role Summary
Lead hardware product management for Silicon Labs' IoT SoC portfolio in Austin, defining product direction from concept through customer alphas. Work closely with silicon design, product test, validation, software, project management, and business teams to deliver competitive wireless system-on-chip products.
Focus areas include SoC architecture, peripherals, power, security, radio subsystems, and customer evaluation tools to address Bluetooth, Wi‑Fi, Thread, Zigbee, Matter and other IoT protocols.
Experience Level
Senior — typically requires 6+ years of semiconductor product management or IoT industry experience.
Responsibilities
Own hardware product definition, roadmap, and cross-functional execution for scalable IoT SoCs.
- Define SoC product requirements, features, specifications, and system KPIs for CPU, accelerators, power management, digital/analog peripherals, security subsystems, radio subsystems, and packages.
- Translate market and system application requirements into product use cases, block diagrams, compute/peripheral needs, and protocol performance targets for Wi‑Fi, Matter, Thread, ZigBee, BLE, Bluetooth Classic, Sidewalk, Wi‑SUN, and proprietary protocols.
- Specify hardware and evaluation tools for customers, including debug interfaces (JTAG, SWD, ETM trace), virtual COM ports, and user I/O such as buttons, LEDs, displays, sensors.
- Collaborate with IC design, product test, software, marketing, applications, operations, and sales to develop roadmaps and silicon definitions.
- Drive product development from concept through definition and present product ideas to executive leadership.
- Perform competitive analyses, including die-level teardown and specification comparisons, to inform design and differentiation strategies.
- Manage a portfolio of scalable products with clear mappings to target applications.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and professional experience.
- 6+ years experience in semiconductor product management or the IoT industry, working at a technical level with cross-functional engineering teams.
- Core development experience in IC front end, architecture, verification, or embedded systems.
- Understanding of PPA trade-offs, power estimation, die size estimation, and process node principles.
- Knowledge of wireless modem and RF design principles for Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, 802.15.4, or other low-power wireless standards.
- Experience developing business cases for technology investments, including sensitivity analysis with business unit partners.
- Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills, including presentations to executive management.
Nice-to-have:
- Development experience with wireless or wired communication protocols.
- MBA or equivalent business graduate degree.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science (BSEE/BSCS) or equivalent practical experience is expected. An MBA or equivalent business graduate degree is preferred but not required.
